Refractive Index Profiles
The following table shows the different index profiles of polymer fibers. They are responsible for increased band-width and a reduced bending sensitivity. The parameters of the different profiles are described in the IEC 60793-2-20 in the classes A4a to A4h.
SI-POF (step index, Æ: 1,0 mm, AN = 0,50) for fast data transmission A4a.2 Homogeneous core with single cladding
DSI-POF (double step index, Æ: 1,0 mm, AN = 0,30):
Homogeneous core with double cladding, higher bandwidth Klasse/class A4d
MSI-POF (multi step index, Æ: 0,75 mm, AN = 0,25 mm):
Several layers with different refractive indices, very high bandwidth
Klasse/class A4e
GI-POF (graded index, Æ: 0,9 mm, AN = 0,40):
Parabolic index profile, up to 2 Gbit/s·100 m
Klasse/class A4e
fibers from fluorinated polymers: Klasse/class A4f..A4g
MC-POF (multi core, Æ: 1,0 mm, AN = 0,50):
Many cores with SI-profile, small bend radius (3 mm)
Klasse/class A4a.2
Many double cladd cores; very high bandwidth
