Fluorinated GI-POF

Using a parabolic index profile the differences in transit times are nearly eliminated. The use of fluorinated poly-mer (CYTOP® from Asahi Glass Company) in the  LucinaTM-POF yields an attenuation lower than 20 dB/km and data rates up to 40 Gbit/s for 100 m POF (demonstra-ted e.g. from the TU Eindhoven, University Kiel, Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, NEC, University of Southern California and the Keio University). Such fibers are produced by Asahi Glass and Chromis Fiberoptics.

Bending radii of only a few millimeters can be realized by a W-shaped index profile. Contrary to PMMA-POF the core diameters of these fibers are between 50 µm and     120 µm. They operate best with wavelengths between 850 nm and 1300 nm.
